What if- final pieces.

Above are the final concepts for the unseen leeds project, which include poster, a map, and the prototype for an app. the idea behind this project was an alternative tourist attraction, which left exploration down you, and your independence, i think at a whole this project work well to answer the brief.

below is the project going live by handing out the maps with the areas if interested located on it. as well as getting the posters into the public eye.

Theme/Subject/Rational

THEME/SUBJECT & RATIONALE

  • The basic theme of my project was to promote and inform people of the subject. I wanted to do this in a manner that was clear and simple.
  • The starting point for my project was 100 chocolates, through primary and secondary research predominantly; this progressed through looking at brand image of chocolates and eventually the design of the wrappers/packaging of chocolates. And how the packaging represented there brand image and the how the company themselves wanted to be portrayed in the public eye.
  • What I intended to do for this project, was inform people who have knowledge of branding or are in the industry themselves of how to construct the packaging of a cross section of chocolates with in the chocolate market (high-end-budget). I wanted to inform people by looking at the wrappers of the tell tale signs of that informed the consumer of the brand ethos and identity. I wanted to do this by focusing on three main subsections, the typography used on the wrappers, the colours used on the wrappers and the images used. I wanted to create a set of ten information based posters set out in a clear and concise way with consistent layout and style used through out.

Module Evaluation

1.    WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU DEVELOPED THROUGH THIS MODULE AND HOW EFFECTIVELY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE APPLIED THEM?

The skills I have developed through this module have be vast, I have defiantly improved my ability on illustrator, especially the vectoring of images and type, however this still takes time. I also believe my time management skills have improved due to a result of this module, and towards the end of the module. My ability to find relevant research has also seen significance improvement; it was the research side to this project that I enjoyed the most.

2.    WHAT APPROACHES TO/METHODS OF RESEARCH HAVE YOU DEVELOPED AND HOW HAVE THEY INFORMED YOUR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PROCESS?

I think my primary research was the strongest part of this module; it set me up nicely to develop through out the project, with a large body of photography. Which set the design basis for my final outcomes. I also enjoyed exploring information graphics that were only made possible by the questionnaires and as result the statistics obtained.

3.    WHAT STRENGTHS CAN YOU IDENTIFY IN YOUR WORK AND HAVE/WILL YOU CAPITALISE ON THESE?

I think my strengths lie in the research I obtain and how I develop the research, however I still think I lack the ability technically to put my ideas down on paper. Although my skills on illustrator have improved and I will defiantly capitalize on these as the course develops.

4.    WHAT WEAKNESSES CAN YOU IDNENTIFY IN YOUR WORK AND HOW WILL YOU ADDRESS THESE MORE FULLY?

Weaknesses I can find in my work, is I lack some finesse when producing final outcomes, especially when using programs, I think this will develop over time, however it requires a higher degree of effort on my behalf to get to where I want to be.

5.    IDENTIFY FIVE THINGS THAT YOU WILL DO DEFFERENTLY NEXT TIME AND WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GAIN FROM DOING THESE?

·      Time management is something that can always be improved on and this was demonstrated, as I was not able to finish a set of ten from project one hundred. I will begin final pieces sooner.
·      Another thing that I shall do differently next time is working by giving myself more definite targets, during the project, I found I would get side tracked by side projects (still 100) and as a result lose the flow I had going with the other.
·      I will also try out more final outcomes next time, I believe my work to be good until I get to the final pieces.
·      I will also show more adventure in producing a final outcome, need to be more ambitious.
·      Blog as I go, instead of leaving out sections to fill in towards module hand in..BIG MISTAKE

6. HOW WOULD YOU GRADE YOURSELF ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

5=EXCELLENT, 4=VERY GOOD, 3=GOOD, 2=AVERAGE, 1= POOR.

ATTEDANCE=4/5
PUNCTUALITY=4
MOTIVATION=3/4
COMMITMENT=4
QUANTITY OF WORK PRODUCED= 2
QUALITY OF WORK PRODUCED=3
CONTRIBUTION TO THE GROUP= 3/4

Project 100-Final pieces and info graphics

INFO GRAPHICS

As a rule, i wanted to keep consistence through out the info graphics, so they could be used as a set at the end of the project. I think looking at them as a set, i have succeeded, using same colour schemes and type,aids this.
Individually i think the bar charts showing calorie information are more successful, i like the use of opacity on this.

FINAL INFORMATIONAL POSTERS

What i wanted to achieve with theses was clarity of information, layout out in a concise way, that would allow easy information to follow. I think they achieve this, however there are certain things that i would revisit, for example in the green and blacks on there is a line weighting problem, as in two much. These three should be a set of ten as well. the colour scheme i think works well, as colour would over complicate the piece.

\

I think they work reasonably well as a set. and they meet the needs of the target audience.

What If-Self Evaluation.

What problem did you identify?

Looking at directing people to and informing them of unseen urban areas of significance in Leeds.

What evidence did u find to support your decision?

The evidence we obtained was based around statistics from questionnaires, it really broadly proved that there is a need for alternative tourist attractions in leeds. Getting away from the stuffy standard of museums and art galleries. Get out and explore yourself. It is also apparent from looking around leeds that there are areas of street art and buildings of beauty that no one pays any attention of.

What methods did you use to gather your evidence and what forms did it take?

Made use of a variety of research methods. Quantitative primary in the form of graphs of data that we collected from summarising  primary Qualitative questionnaires. And a large amount of secondary quantitative facts, statistics andqualitative opinions collected from the internet etc.

What methods did you fins useful and why?

I think the questionnaires as they were the vehicle for the statistics that proved the points that what we were doing was in need. and what direction we should take the project in.  For example the map created was due to the questionnaires.

What methods did you encounter as problematic?

It can be quite problematic collecting facts and locations about unknown areas of Leeds, as they are not well known, so are not widely publicised.

How did you overcome this?

we over came it really buy exploring the city an using the internet to find interesting unseen areas. There are however many more not included in our project.

What research could you of carried out that would have been more useful?

perhaps further research could of included information provided by the city council, about the history of some of the buildings included. To create a great knowledge.

Five things I've learnt about the design process.

-Letting research inform every decision within the process is a good way to work.
-opinions and qualitative research from peers etc, can often prove just as useful, if not more so than anything sourced from the internet.
-the various terms used to categorize methods of research.
-The internet is not the only source of research
-When working as a group it is very important to keep in contact in order to discuss decisions made and research collected to inform the outcomes.

Five things I'll do differently.

-Try to work more effectively as a group, communicating with them more.
-Use my research as a tool for my projects development more effectively.
-Try to collate a larger amount of research and of different types to inform my projects.
-Try to use the internet less and look for alternative sources of research as they proved very useful this time round.
-Try to manage my time when in a group more effectively so as to fulfill the brief to the best of my abilities.

End Of Module Evaluation

What skill have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

during the course of this module i have developed many skills, primarily perhaps, i have become much more aware of tone voice when trying to portray an appropriate message, in relation to the typeface used and layout. I think this was demonstrated most effectively on the last project of the module, the mail shot. As the tone of voice i was attempting to use was that of an informative nature. But persuading people to attend and event. The typeface i decided to use was high impact, and the important areas of the letter(where,when) were highlighted by use of colour. A use of colour is something that i have a higher degree of a preiciation for. Highlighting specific areas by the use of colour.
before this module started i also had no clue on how use illustrator, something now that i feel i can use at a basic level.

What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development processes?

Something that i have began to develop is my use of design sheets, on a bigger scale. Before my development was limited to sketch book work purely. the increase in size, has allowed me to track my development more effectively as my ideas develop. They have enabled me to pick more decisively the direction that i want to take with in a project.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how/will you capitalise on these?

The strength in my opinion, in my work lye in the development stage, i feel as if my ideas are strong, however when i have completed a projet i take a step back i feel there is so much morei could of done. this is most apparent in the french dinners ladies posters. As looking at propaganda let me to a good ides, however my technical abilities on photoshop ment that final outcome was not as strong as i would of hoped.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you adress them?

As explained earlier my weakness lye in showing what i want in a final outcome. i feel i am let down in my technical ability on photoshop etc? which means that i can not effectively portray my ideas, which i where i feel my strengths lye.

Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from these things?

1.blog more often, this will allow me to keep on top of work and more effectively manage my time.
2.Time management with in a project,  i feel as if i spend to much time on development and as a result rush my final piece, better time management will allow me to improve on my final outcome, which i my weakness at the moment.
3.have 100 percent attendane as this will also me to keep on top of work, and not miss anything important.
4. Public speaking need to e improved, need to learn to relax more, ans this will allow me to demonstrate my point more clearly.
5. illustrator skills, this will make my final pieces  better. as will feel competent.

1. attendance, 4
2. punctuality 4
3. motivation 3
4 quality off work produced 3
5.quantity of work produced 3
6.contribution to group 4.

The Final Mail Shot And Evaluation

The evaluation  again is based around the crit.Which this time was not anonomus, however was in the same format. Looking at the final mail shot, it has become aparant that anyt further improvements should be based around translating the contents into to french. As during the project i thought it was more important for people to understand the  language used.
